Welcome to Radiens: The Neural Recording and Analysis Platform#
Radiens is a single, scalable software platform that spans the entire electrophysiology workflow — in vivo and in vitro, from recording to result. It turns high-density electrophysiology from something researchers decode into something they can see and trust: quantitative quality and provenance travel with every recording, and your data stays on your own hardware.
Research use only. NeuroNexus products and the procedures described here are for non-clinical research use, and must not be used in human or veterinary medical procedures.
What is Radiens?#
Radiens is designed by neuroscientists for modern electrophysiology. It reads any acquisition stream live — no driver required — and carries a recording forward through acquisition, curation, analysis, and exploration in one connected environment. You can work visually through its applications or programmatically through Python; the two share the same engine, so a workflow moves between them without conversion or lock-in.
The applications#
- Allego — real-time acquisition and session control. Configure and operate the DAQ, watch signals as they are written, and monitor signal quality live.
- Videre — the analysis and exploration app. Spike sorting, spatial and target-centered views, and publication-ready figures, on any recording, live or after.
- RadiensPy — the free Python client: everything the applications do, scriptable and agent-operable, for pipelines you compose yourself.
- Radiens CLI — the free command-line interface (command:
radiens) for headless, composable operation.
Acquisition, curation, analysis, and exploration are workflow stages, not separate products — a recording flows through them without leaving the platform.
Universal compatibility#
- Hardware-agnostic acquisition: Instrument control for Smartbox, SiNAPS and XDAQ, and reads the broader Intan and Open Ephys ecosystems; any acquisition stream can be monitored in real time.
- Probe integration: Plug-and-play support for NeuroNexus probes and headstages with geometry maps and 3D models, native models for both CMOS active-probe families (SiNAPS and Neuropixels), and a model builder for any other electrode, including MEAs.
- Open data standards: Simple, open file formats that are Python- and MATLAB-friendly, with native support for NWB,
.dat, and.phy. FAIR data in open standards — no proprietary data traps.
Work the way you want#
Every capability is reachable two ways, on one engine. The same recording, whichever you pick.
| Interface | Apps | What you do with it |
|---|---|---|
| Visual — nothing to write | Allego, Videre | Run and watch the recording live; curate, analyze and explore after |
| Programmatic — a short script | RadiensPy, Radiens CLI | Compose Radiens into your own pipelines; drive it from an agent |
Use them together or separately. RadiensPy and the Radiens CLI script the Radiens apps you have installed, and MATLAB and LabVIEW integrate with existing research infrastructure.
What Radiens does for your research#
View signals in their native spatial context#
Radiens shows neural activity in the spatial context of both your probe geometry and the neural target, so you can see where your signals come from rather than infer it.
- Probe-centered signal registration: See exactly which electrode sites are recording.
- Interactive 3D models: Visualize activity in anatomical and probe context.
- Real-time spatial feedback: See the recording as it happens and act during the session.
- Atlas integration: Register brain-centered views to atlas coordinates.
# Example spatial registration workflow radiens.probe.register_geometry(probe_type="A1x32-Poly3") radiens.brain.load_atlas(atlas="Allen_CCF_v3") radiens.visualization.spatial_overlay( Signals=neural_data, Anatomy=brain_regions, Real_time=True )
Make every recording session count#
Radiens computes signal-quality metrics as the data is written, so you can catch a problem while the session is still running instead of discovering it during analysis.
- Live signal-quality monitoring: Track signal integrity as you record.
- Live spike detection and sorting: See neural activity as it happens.
- Quantitative quality metrics: Objective measures alongside the raw signal.
- Brain- and target-centered views: Quality in spatial context.
| Quality metric | Real-time monitoring | Quantitative assessment | Visual feedback |
|---|---|---|---|
| Signal-to-noise ratio | ✅ Continuous | ✅ Statistical | ✅ Color-coded display |
| Electrode impedance | ✅ Live updates | ✅ Threshold alerts | ✅ Status indicators |
| Spike detection | ✅ Live sorting | ✅ Unit classification | ✅ Waveform display |
| Artifact detection | ✅ Real-time | ✅ Flagged for review | ✅ Visual markers |
Score and triage large datasets#
Radiens turns large data volumes into a workable set: it profiles a recording, surfaces the sessions and channels worth your attention, and keeps the experimental context attached to the data.
- Automated profiling: Assess dataset quality and characteristics quickly.
- Session triage: Identify the most promising recordings.
- Context preservation: Keep the story behind the data with the data.
- Comparative views: Cross-session and cross-condition comparisons.
Data import → automated profiling → quality assessment → triage → analysis
Built for modern research standards#
Professional data management#
Radiens keeps your workflows aligned with modern standards for data sharing, reproducibility, and provenance — without moving your data off your own systems.
- Open, standard file formats: No proprietary data traps.
- Quality and provenance: First-class, automatic, and carried through every stage, so any result is exactly re-derivable.
- Local-first storage: Your data stays home, on your lab's own hardware.
- Reproducible pipelines: Version-pinned open-source pipelines and complete parameter records.
Data collection → metadata annotation → quality validation → local storage → collaborative access
Designed to scale and to be automated#
Radiens runs from your workstation to on-demand cluster compute, and its clean, structured interface (JSON, markdown, stdout) makes it scriptable and agent-operable — an agent can toggle the stream, check status, or open a file in Videre through the same commands you use.
| System scale | Supported channels | Real-time processing | Memory guidance |
|---|---|---|---|
| Entry | Up to 64 channels | ✅ Full real-time | 16 GB RAM |
| High-density | 64–256 channels | ✅ Full real-time | 32 GB RAM |
| Ultra-high-density | 256–1,024+ channels | ✅ Real-time | 64 GB RAM or more |
Editions#
Radiens is built for serious science and free to start. The Standard edition is free; Pro backs your work at its scale as the science progresses. Real-time monitoring is delivered through Vantage™ — a live view of the recording, signal quality, and live PSD in the free tier, with live spectral, live sorting, live PSTH, and any-DAQ recording monitoring at Pro.
Your data is always accessible: recordings stay in open formats on your own hardware, so there is no vendor lock-in and no upload required.
