Choose the Right Radiens Package#

Choose Radiens by what your lab does. This guide maps the Radiens applications and editions to your workflow — real-time acquisition, post-hoc analysis, or both — so you invest in exactly the capabilities you need and back your work at its scale as the science progresses. Radiens is built for serious science and free to start.

Research use only. NeuroNexus products and the procedures described here are for non-clinical research use, and must not be used in human or veterinary medical procedures.

The Radiens applications#

Radiens is one platform whose apps cover the workflow arc — acquisition, curation, analysis, and exploration. Curation and analysis are workflow stages, not separate products; a recording flows through them without leaving the platform.

  1. Allego — real-time acquisition and session control: configure and operate the DAQ, read the recording as it is written, and monitor signal quality live.
  2. Videre — the analysis and exploration app: spike sorting, spatial and target-centered views, dataset triage, and publication-ready figures, on any recording, live or after.
  3. RadiensPy — the free Python client: everything the applications do, scriptable and agent-operable, for pipelines you compose yourself.
  4. Radiens CLI — the free command-line interface (command: radiens) for headless, composable operation.

Compatibility#

Radiens is not restricted to NeuroNexus probes and DAQ systems.

  • Hardware: instrument control for Smartbox, SiNAPS and XDAQ, and reads the broader Intan and Open Ephys ecosystems; any acquisition stream can be monitored in real time.
  • Probes: plug-and-play support for NeuroNexus probes and headstages (geometry maps, 3D models), native models for both CMOS active-probe families (SiNAPS and Neuropixels), and a model builder for any other electrode, including MEAs.
  • Data files: simple, open formats that are Python- and MATLAB-friendly, with native support for NWB, .dat, and .phy; more formats added per user needs.

If you record, start in Allego for real-time acquisition, live signal-quality monitoring, and session control.

If you analyze existing data, start in Videre for spike sorting, dataset triage, spatial views, and figures — on recordings from Radiens or from other systems, via the open formats above.

If you do both, use Allego and Videre together; a recording moves from acquisition through curation to analysis on one engine, with quality and provenance carried the whole way.

If you script or automate, RadiensPy and the Radiens CLI give you the full platform as a clean, structured interface (JSON, markdown, stdout) — automatable and agent-operable, with cron and CI kept on your side.

Editions#

Radiens comes in two editions. The Standard edition is free — a genuine working entry point, not a time-limited demo. Pro adds the lab-scale capabilities a working lab publishes from, and backs your work at its scale.

Real-time monitoring is delivered through Vantage™: a live view of the recording, signal quality, and live PSD in the free tier, with live spectral, live sorting, live PSTH, and any-DAQ recording monitoring at Pro.

Your data is always accessible: recordings stay in open formats on your own hardware, so there is no vendor lock-in and no upload required — even if a subscription lapses, your data and open-format files remain fully usable.

Frequently asked questions#

Can I change editions later?#

Yes. You can move between editions at any time; your data and configurations carry over, and because files stay in open formats there is no migration lock-in.

What if I only need certain capabilities occasionally?#

Start with the free Standard edition and move to Pro when the science calls for it. Contact the team to discuss the fit for mixed or seasonal workflows.

Do you offer academic pricing?#

Yes — academic pricing is available for qualified institutions, including multi-user and site licenses for research groups. Contact the academic team.

Can I evaluate Radiens with my own data?#

Yes. The free Standard edition lets you work with your actual datasets and experimental paradigms before committing to a paid edition.

Hardware compatibility questions?#

Radiens supports broad hardware ecosystems (see Compatibility above). Compatibility verification is available before purchase, and the model builder covers non-native electrodes and headstages.

Ready to get started?#

  1. Review the editions → start free with Standard.
  2. System requirements → confirm your setup.
  3. Download & install → get up and running.
  4. First tutorial → follow the workflow for your app (Allego or Videre).
