Acquisition Control
Instrument control configures and operates the DAQ hardware; session control is the operator's live operation of a recording.
Acquisition control in Radiens has two layers: instrument control, the hardware-driver layer that configures and operates the data acquisition system (Smartbox, SiNAPS, XDAQ), and session control, the operator's live operation of a recording, starting and stopping trials, monitoring signal quality and adjusting the acquisition while data streams.
Instrument control is available through the Allego GUI and programmatically through RadiensPy and the Radiens CLI, and is free on every NeuroNexus system. It registers the DAQ as an instrument in Radiens with the probe model, channel map, sampling rate and filter settings that go into every trial's metadata, and it is what makes XDAQ ↗ and Smartbox ↗ instruments in Radiens rather than devices Radiens reads from. Session control is the work in Allego during the recording: starting and stopping trials, watching signal quality per site and the GPIO ↗ signals as they stream, and adjusting the acquisition. Both are distinct from experiment and study design, which organize the science. The data acquisition system ↗ entry covers what the hardware does.
